English term or phrase: carousel vs. turntable tray
I'm translating a manual for a microwave oven.
I thought that the two phrases were synonyms. But based on these two sentences maybe they have different meanings:

"If necessary, the carousel and turntable tray can be removed with the tray handle tool while wearing protective oven mitts to wipe spills."
"Unless oven has cooled for one hour and 30 minutes, the carousel and turntable tray are extremely hot."

What is the difference between the two words?

little spider thing that makes it turn vs. glass platter
Explanation:
Just a guess, and it will depend on the specific type of oven, which you don't state.

With that important extra context, it sounds then as if the turntable is the bit at the bottom that does the driving, and perhaps the carousels are some kind of stacking elements that can be piled up on top?
