if I understand correctly, Sheila and Tony are talking about the same thing. So carousel is a kind of rack that has to be put on the tray so that you will have two or more "floors" in the oven cavity.

Surely, if this is a microwave oven it also functions as an ordinary one, otherwise it would not take 90 minutes to cool. I avoid these things like the plague but I have seen metal racks used in them - circular wire frame at the top with legs going down to the glass tray

Now that we are finally getting a bit of conbtext, I think I'm beginning to understand.

I believe that the 'disc' is the thing I originally called a 'spider', which transmits the drive from the little rotating stub, and usually has some kind of rollers to ensure free rotation; on top of this goes a tray — in domestic ovens, this is often made of glass. And then I thinki these 'carousels' (the term suggests height or thickness) must stack up on top of this tray, presumably so you can heat more than one thing at a time.

The "turntable disc" phrase also occurs in my text:
"Turntable tray and disc: The turntable disc is placed on the spindle in the center of the oven floor. The turntable tray fits on top of the disc. These rotate when the oven is switched on and stop when the door is opened."

Based on this and your (Tony and Nesrin) answers maybe "carousel" is the synonym of "turntable disc" and not "turntable tray"? So the turntable tray fits on the carousel/turtable disc?

In the document you linked to, the carousel is only mentioned once, in the cleaning section. There's also mention of a turntable tray and disc..("The tuntable tray fits on top of the disc".. so I think the disc is the bit Tony's referring to?)
The French version translates "turntable" as "plateau tournant" and carousel as "chariot de plateau tournant". The German version uses the same word for both (Drehteller).... confusing.

I don't have the answer I'm afraid - on most websites I've checked they do seem to be used as synonyms ("the turntable or carousel") - but this document here which describes some industrial super-microwave speaks of one single turntable and several carousels (first, second... final carousel), and at some point says: "Place the first carousel into the microwave.
