Can anyone explain the meaning of "in-between" in this case. thanks in advance.

agree  B D Finch: I prefer it hyphenated as a noun or adjective and so does the OED, but Collins doesn't. Problem should be avoided here by just using "between" as in "between A and B", but "We had a view of Mount A and Mount B with the river running in between (preposi.".
