a festivity in the Anglo world Explanation: I'm supposing you want to know what is Halloween. Literally it is Hallows Evening, the night before the 1st November (I think) which in some Christian countries is a day dedicated to the dead (In Spain, it's a holiday, ehen people visit their dead). It probably originates in a very ancient pagan (pre-Christian, maybe Celtic) custom. Essentially, it is believed that this is the night that the ghosts, ghouls, and other such ephemeral figures return to the earth/land of the living. Nowadays it is widely celebrated in English speaking countries, and more recently, is being marketed heavily by the card/entertainment industry. Traditionally, children dressed up in fancy costume and took to the streets, and/or played special kinds of games, ate special food at home. |
