English term or phrase: a carefully curated social media presence
Hipsters are known for many things: ironic fashion statements, pretentious attitudes and a carefully curated social media presence. They possess a constantly updated library of obscure bands to love when their current favorite gets too popular to be cool anymore. And they take their food very seriously.
Iberi (X)
a highly selective presence in social media*
Explanation:
* These people devote a lot of energy to controlling the image they project in social media. The examples provided give clues: they want to show that they are on the cutting edge (they are the first to discover new bands few people had heard about, new restaurants, and new food trends). They also probably make sure they mention (and are photographed in) the latest fashions, wear the latest haircuts, go to the latest clubs, etc.

tasteful mentions on social media

Explanation:
I didn;t know what was meant by "curated" but the second wikipedia definition below seems to apply.

Curate: Verb

curate (third-person singular simple present curates, present participle curating, simple past and past participle curated)

1. (transitive) To act as a curator for.

She curated the traveling exhibition.
They carefully curated the recovered artifacts.

2. (transitive) To apply selectivity and taste to, as a collection of fashion items or web pages.  [quotations ▼]

3. (intransitive) To work or act as a curator.

Not only does he curate for the museum, he manages the office and fund-raises.

so it means a carefully selected tasteful mentioning on the social media (Twitter, Facebook etc.)

neutral  Tony M: Not too sure about the idea of 'tasteful' here, Jack — I think it's more the 'selected' sense, i.e. filtered, deliberately/carefully-chosen to portray the image they wish to present to the world.

-> I was assuming that "to apply taste to" in the definition meant this. I had never heard of the verb to curate in this sense till I looked it up.

neutral  Arabic & More: I agree with Tony. The meaning is not "tasteful" -- rather it has to do with deliberately creating a certain image on-line. They do not just post things on-line at random...rather each tweet or post contributes to the image they want others to see.

agree  katsy: esprit d'escalier... here is the word that escaped me earlier as I was reading and wondering about "selective" - "studied"? what do you think of " a highly/very studied presence"?

-> Cheers and thanks, katsy. Yes, I thinks that's the essence of it, although managing that presence in social networks is a special angle here - it's also about selectively projecting a created image using mass media.

agree  Yvonne Gallagher: I like "studied"

Or as perhaps 'a carefully/well-crafted image created for social media'
