agree  Björn Vrooman: Funny--Cambridge uses the dog example for both "ferocious" and "savage"; the latter is a tad worse, IMO (which fits the context). Cambridge seems to agree by putting "extremely" before "frightening/violent" in its explanation of "savage." Also: vicious

agree  Yvonne Gallagher: I'd say "vicious"// ah yes, but Fr "sauvage" really = wild/untamed. "Féroce" would be vicious/fierce/aggressive.

  -> I like "vicious" too. I always find the Frenc for wild rabbit rather amusing: "lapin sauvage". Sounds like a really vicious snarling brute.
