disagree  Faramarz Hamidi: Respectfully: "Add" is good choice. However, "Throw" would be a wrong choice, as it implies use of force/speed in the action. There is a big difference between the two.

in this context, this is a good option..."they mix cardamom with it"

Regarding "throw", it would definitely not be used in a proper recipe, but it could be used in a very colloquial description of how the "shekar panir" is made...we would say something like "oh yeah and they throw some cardamom in it to get that unusual flavor"...it would be like saying "ghaza shur shode...namake ziadi endakhtam tush"
