Unless I'm missing something, جای خود داشتن would seem to be an idiom with two very different, almost opposite meanings.

In the title of the question, unless I'm missing something, it seems to be used to attach honour or importance to something, but at other times it was seem to mean that the thing in question is nothing, of no importance:
به خاطر کارآگاه علوی تا سر دنیا هم که باشه می‌رم، کرج که جای خود داره!
(Said by the wife of one of the detective’s subordinates when he asked her to go to Karaj, only about 20 Km from Tehrān, to get some information.)

As you noted, this can have somewhat opposite meanings. But overall, I have always felt the meaning to be "in general everything has its place in the world and even xyz has its special place...whatever that place might be is not necessarily defined"

Having said that, the whole concept seems foreign in English and is not something we would point our or use like they do in Persian.

I guess that context is most important for this idiom.

In your example from TV, I would read it as: "I would go to the ends of the earth, not to mention Karaj"

In other words, going to Karaj is no big deal if I would go to the ends of the earth for someone.

Hope this has not made it more confusing.

Explanation:
ke jaye khod dare measn che berese be and the best equivalent in English is Let Alone. I can see the context for خرخونا جای خود دارن but if here it means جایگاه خود دارن it shows their importance otherwise the same meaning "Let Alone" can be used here. I doubt here it implies "importance" though more context is needed. in that case it means they have their own place/position
