designated official plant/designated official bird
Explanation:
Where a church is concerned (nimikkokirkko), we would say dedicated to a saint or Our Lady. For a municipality, you could say designated official
plant of the municipality in question: the capercaillie (wood grouse) is the designated official bird of Central Finland, for example.

I did. Google yields 3,880,000 cases of \"designated official\" in 0.37 s.
Whether what is designated is a language, a bird, a plant or whatever is of little consequence. In the U.S. as you probably know, such birds are more often called State Birds, the Cardinal being the State bird of VA.

-> Marjut's explanation is misleading because no municipality is named after the bird or plant (unless it has the same name, but that is another issue).

agree  Anu Carroll: I see the argument for using "designated," but it doesn't seem to be used much. For examples of usage, try Google search of "official bird of" vs. "designated official bird of."

-> Yes, but the meaning is that the bird or plant was officially designated as such.

neutral  Torben AXELSEN: see even the facts on Kainuu's regional bird, fish, flour, stone at http://www.kainuu.fi/index.php?mid=2_24_269&la=fi

-> It's a great website and "regional" is correct. Designated is added where the object has been officially designated as such.
