drug preform Explanation: It means 'potential drug/medicament' a 'drug in (early) development stage'. The translation 'drug preform' can be found here: http://www.sitra.fi/Julkaisut/raportti12.pdf There aren't many other occurrences of 'drug preform' in the net, so it might be that the term 'lääkeaihio' is originally coined by Finns (and not translated from English or other languages as most new terms are). 'Aihio', by the way, is any concrete (like a piece of wood to be made a handle for an axe) or imaginary (like a book, song or composition in an very early stage) entity, and there may not be any one word to cover the same meaning field. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 20 hrs (2010-07-28 20:07:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "any one word to cover the same meaning field" > "any one word in English to cover the same meaning field" |

partially developed drugs Explanation: I agree with Timo that there doesn't seem to be an exact English equivalent to this very clever Finnish term. Depending on the context, one could talk about concepts, ventures etc., but it's strictest form it would mean partially developed drugs or drugs under development. See e.g. http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2007/05/28/fo... "Some biopharmaceutical companies are starting in the middle of the race, choosing to farm partially developed drugs from larger companies and take them through trials for near-term results that investors can feel good about, all the while developing new drug platforms that can take years to get to market." |
