Are we literally talking "directing" here or rather intended for...
The instructive muodostaen also seems unconventional here, or not?

Though I know quite sure what has been meant by the Finnish sentence, I am not very competent in saying it in English, but I try all the same:

"In one implementation of the invention one or several metal coatings is/are formed/deposited on the surface of the workpiece by vaporizing metal through laser-ablation in such a way that the emerging plasma / metallic plasma / plasmatic metal is directed/thrown towards the surface of the workpiece where it forms the metal coating / deposits as metal coating."

The original good have been better:

- 'Suoritusmuoto' might have been better as 'toteutus, sovellus' (implementation),

- The perfect tense used ('on muodostettu', 'on suuntautunut') brings about a possibility of misinterpretation. You may think that there is sth more complicated, but what is meant is that simply the plasma flows / is directed / is thrown towards the surface of the workpiece. If present tense were used ('muodostetaan', 'suuntautuu') the Finnish original would have been more clear.

I think it means that a metal surface is formed by the plasma orienting itself according to the direction of the surface it is created on (i.e., it is oriented to the surface, parallel to it, I would assume). So the "direction" of the new metal surface is determined by the surface it is created on, but I think the proper term in this context is "orientation."
