de vallei van Samber en Maas Explanation: Een 'sillon' is een groef of diepe voor. Op Waalse websites kom je vaak bijv. "aud sud du Sillon de la Sambre et de la Meuse" tegen, wat dan in de Nederlandstalige tegenhanger eenvoudig vertaald wordt als "ten zuiden van Samber en Maas". Vanwege die diepe voor zou dan m.i. "de vallei van Samber en Maas" ook kunnen, en dat kom je op het internet inderdaad ook tegen. Of ook wel "het stroomdal" van Samber en Maas. Immers, van de Samber-Maasvallei wordt gezegd dat ze meer een "inzakkingsgeul" is dan wel een vallei, wat duidelijk verwijst naar de reden waarom in het Frans "Sillon" gebruikt wordt. |
