Hi again!
DOC: 1907 Museum catalog of ancient Egyptian mirrors. Catalog entry.
CONTEXT: 44101. Boîte à miroir. - Bois et ivoire. - (pl. XXIII). Under the heading of Couvercle.

ATTEMPT: The side of the entire lid is decorated with the customary ornamental border: an ivory fillet between two ebony fillets.
ISSUE: I think this "edge" is what I see on the plate. I wish I could upload it here -- I hope my link works. Everything in this work seems to be an "edge", "border", or "edging" so I get very confused! My author's use of the word for "selvage" is very strange.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

ornamental frieze around the edge
Explanation:
"The side edge of the whole lid is decorated with the customary ornamental frieze made up of an ivory fillet between two ebony fillets."

I assume that we are still talking about this mirror case:

But that he's describing the very narrow side edges of the lid which are *not* visible in that shot --since the ornamental frieze which we can see on the top of the lid is definitely not made up of an ivory fillet between two ebony fillets.

This is really quite a de lux item, with intricate inlay work all around the narrow edge of the lid --i.e., Time, Out of Mind (as usual).

-> Thanks, Yolanda. I'm still trying to picture this ivory/ebony frieze around the thin edges of the top of that thing.
