Hi again!
DOC: 1907 Museum catalog of ancient Egyptian mirrors.
CONTEXT: Miroirs soleil -- [....]
ATTEMPT: The cogency of this observation, needless to say, will elude those who should look for verification in the usual depictions of Egyptian monuments, as almost invariably our modern illustrators have substituted a compass-drawn circumference for this curved figure characterized by the flattening of the poles, ***which truly/actually is the solar disk as*** the Egyptians conceived of it.
ISSUE: Is there a better or more accurate way to express this?
Thanks in advance!

which is properly the disc of the sun according to
Explanation:
I think this is one of the few instances where 'proprement' really can be translated by this less common use of 'properly' in EN — i.e. 'proper to...' (cf. the 'Proper' of the Catholic Mass!)

It's hard to choose, I think both answers are right and helpful, but I think this fits my text better.

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: "which is actually the solar disk" would probably easier to digest ;-)
