French term or phrase: Intervenir dans les frais
Hi guys,

I'm translating an agreement and this term pops up in the following context (XX undertakes to reimbourse YY for the items in the list):

XX s’engage à intervenir dans les frais:

1. Le paiement...
2. Une contribution aux frais supplémentaires...
3. Le remboursement des...
4. Les frais éventuels de...
5. Une allocation destinée à couvrir...

I first had "cover", but then obviously that would give the impression that 100% of the costs in the list are covered. Both the meaning and the syntax have be absolutely stumped.

Any suggestions would be very welcome!

Thanks,
Nick

English translation:undertakes to provide / ensure the following
Explanation:
It is very late and I have just had to walk back from the station! However, I could point out that all the items in your list already mention some kind of payment, and that 'intervenir' is a word open to much interpretation, so you could pare down the introductory phrase and let the list speak for itself.

agree  AllegroTrans: Yes, and oh that ugh "intervention" word...; however Asker needs to look at whether "intervenir" here might mean "contributing toward"

-> I can't imagine that a clause would merely ask one party to contribute without specifying exactly what amount/proportion! Go Dutch? Whatever you feel like? €2 a month?

agree  philgoddard: "Ensure" doesn't fit the context, though.

Explanation:
Hello
The problem in my opinion is the variety of "payments" and finding a verb that goes with all the noun phrases.
if you try "undertake to provide/ensure" (Thomas Miles' suggestion), you still end up with some dubious phrases such as "undertakes to provide a contribution/any costs/an allocation".
Overall, I think that "pledges" goes better with the majority of payments 1-5
