I am well aware how common this term is in FR — but it covers a great many different concepts; hence unless we know the details of company XXX, we can only "guess" which of the many possibilities might be required to express it in EN
The problem here is not understanding the general cpncept in FR, but rather, selecting the appropriate term in EN. Perhaps you have some suggestions?

It's a vague word, but so is "operations", which is how I always translate it in this context.

Unfortunately, 'exploitation' is one of those words that can have very many different translations depending on the context — and if it opposes something else in some given organization.
Unless you know what kind of business XXX is in, and so can hazard a guess what kind of 'exploitation' it might be, you'll probably have to keep it fairly non-committal.
