French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology)
French term or phrase: Piégeage
Règles de sécurité complémentaires s' appliquant aux locaux techniques - Contrôles anti-piégeages

Hi everyone,
I have a doubt on the translation of this term, in the pre-translated sections I had obtained from the client, it was translated by "entrapment" however I am not so sure it applies to IT?
This term is used in a list of information security requirements, these are the only occurrences below:

Sur les SI particulièrement sensibles, il convient de mener des contrôles anti-piégeages réguliers, effectués par du personnel formé.

La présente instruction énonce des mesures de sécurité permettant de répondre de façon concrète à des objectifs de sécurité liés à certaines méthodes d'attaque sur le système d'information :

- le vol de matériel (comprenant l'accès illégitime aux supports) ;
- l'accès illégitime aux locaux ;
- l'usurpation de droits ;
- l'altération des données ;
- l'utilisation illicite du matériel ;
- l'interception de signaux compromettants ;
- le piégeage du logiciel.

neutral  writeaway: 100% is OTT imo. Looking at your ref (and explanation in French), it's not sure (Reliability: **)

disagree  Daryo: it is closer to the mark than "entrapment" but CL5 is grossly OTT // the general problem with glossaries not giving any real-life samples: you can easily miss that *although it's fine in most cases* it wont apply to the specific ST you have to translate.

phishing

Explanation:
contrôles anti-piégeages réguliers
regular anti-phishing measures

I think they're using piégeage as a synonym for hameçonnage here since they have added the "anti", otherwise it could have been "entrapment" or "trapping" as in the following reference http://www.btb.termiumplus.gc.ca/tpv2alpha/alpha-fra.html?la...
to prevent/catch out cybertheft.
BUT, and this is important, since it is "anti-piégeage", and I think the anti is important here, then it sounds more like they have used piégeage as a synonym of hameçonnage, and they mean anti-phishing measures. So it sounds like a form of anti-phishing measure they carry out regularly to protect their information system.

Example sentence(s):
  • regular anti-phishing measures

disagree  Daryo: "phishing" is done by email to induce unsuspecting humans to go to dodgy sites trying to make them part with confidential information, while here it's about all sort of "computer nasties" that are hidden in software
