Though UK translation agencies wonder why use of the term by many into-ENG translators and court interpreters is problematical, the term of 'Common Law' denotes the Anglo-Am or 'Anglo-Saxon' system of law, the law prevailing within the British Commonwealth or contrasting with criminal law. In the case cited it's in connection with workers who have a disadvantage, therefore the ordinary or common law of employment is relevant, not just state living allowances.
