French term or phrase: direction lisière
Hello,

In a list of meteorological data picked up by a weather sensor:

• Vitesse d’accumulation de la glace
• Causes d’accumulation de la glace
• Concentration de la glace de mer
• Cumul et type de glace
• **Direction lisière**

I found "ice edge" for lisière (http://www.aari.nw.ru/gdsidb/XML/volume1.php?lang1=1&lang2=0...
But in what sense does it have a "direction", if that is the correct understanding?

Any help greatly appreciated, thanks!

Termium gives ''ice edge'' for ''lisière de glaces'':

http://www.btb.termiumplus.gc.ca/tpv2alpha/alpha-eng.html?la...

DEF – The demarcation at any given time between the open sea and sea ice of any kind, whether fast or drifting. It may be termed compacted or diffuse.

Or maybe ''direction of ice edge displacement'':

Therefore, the DIRECTION OF ICE EDGE DISPLACEMENT, whether
it be to open water or vice versa, affects the intensity
of ice melt differently both from the lower and the
lateral sides.

Sblack: Yes, ''orientation of the ice edge'' seems to be a very good translation:
In this case, the sign of response
depends on orientation of the ice edge.
In Drake
Passage and in the western South Atlantic the orientation
of the climatological ice edge is northeastward.

Asker: Thanks Clanola. I had found the Termium entry already, but the Armada Project pics were very useful. In the meantime I also found "orientation of the ice edge". http://dss.ucar.edu/datasets/ds463.2/docs/td9956.200301.txt
