Thanks for the clarification; I learned a lot. However, I am not convinced that this description of the power source fits the English term "autonomous." It would instead be called "spontaneous," perhaps "automated," and the power would need to the indicated in the list, for example "automated power." "Automatic," though not a proper translation of "autonome," can be used to describe a weapon. The Wikipedia article you provided focuses on the Gatling gun being a predecessor of automatic weapons (rapid-fire, without reloading). I am (respectfully) only arguing from a linguistics point of view.

On other hand, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gatling_gun they mention "Power for operating the gun is provided by twin hydraulic motors pressurized from two independent hydraulic systems"

Are you talking about autonomous refueling? I don't think that it would be used to directly describe this cannon in the listing: 30mm barrels, "autonome", gas-powered. The plane could easily have autonomous (no man needed) refueling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_aerial_refueling. We are talking about this cannon, which is known to have rapid firing without the need to reload or re-trigger: http://preprod.nexter-group.fr/fr/produits/item/294-30mm-can... It would be categorized as an autocannon/automatic cannon.

I found the sentence here: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/french_to_english/aerospace_aviati... strange, but I am not French native. I misread your suggestion; are you saying "autonome" means "functions by itself (autonomous)"? In the context, I figured "autonome" should have been "automatique."

I think that this project was not written by a French native speaker. Obviously, however, you should choose words that fit their meaning/context. Bonne chance!
