French term or phrase: étudiant en résidence
I'm sure there's a word for this.

and I'm also having a bit of trouble with 'continuiste' (OK that's two questions!)

English translation:(artist) in residence
Explanation:
I don't think the term is really "étudiant en résidence"; it's identifying the musician as a student at one institution, performing "in residence" at another.

As for continuiste, it means that the organist is playing the basso continuo (or just "continuo") part.

agree  Domini Lucas: I agree re the term meaning artist (or perhaps musician) in residence. I was once a student who was appointed as an "artist in residence" by a College, though it was in a drama context. Can't comment re continuiste.

resident continuo player

Explanation:
A "continuiste" is a continuo player and "en résidence" expresses the idea of regular appearances.
I suggest taking a bit of structural liberty here and saying something like: one of the organ students from that institution will be the resident continuo player at ... under ...
