windsail Explanation: A retractable windsail assists a crane parked with a jib in a more upright position to weathervane safely in a tight urban environment. A kind KudoZ colleague sent me the following link to a video that shows how it works. I think this is a distinct possibility. https://vimeo.com/431756510 |

wind intake system Explanation: 'tower crane with a lifting jib, equipped with an adjustable wind intake system' 'When the tower is on security configuration, the balancing between the arrow's wind intake must be favourable to the wind intake behind, at counter level to allow the arrow to move naturally in the wind.' -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days 23 hrs (2020-12-14 12:36:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- When placed on safety configuration the arch's (axle's) wind intake capacity needs stability to allow it to move naturally in the wind. |

windage feature, - adjustment system, Explanation: In sailing, kiting, sails up or not, there is always a "prise au vent". It describes the surface are exposed to the wind. For example, in sailing, even with what is called "bare pole" (no sails up at all), there is still a "prise au vent" represented by the surface area of the "poles" (mast, boom, etc). Indeed, wingmasts can be fairly tricky for the very fact that even with no canvas up, the surface exposed to the wind is still high., but I digress. I trust you can see the parallel. Exposed surface, windage, wind load(ing), etc. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days 3 hrs (2020-12-14 17:02:29 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "wind load" also for "prise au vent". -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 days 3 hrs (2020-12-14 17:08:22 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- THis video #10 at 1min 20 will show you how and why a crane needs to adjust.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IF0ew_wQCw&ab_channel=Disco... https://www.windcrane.com/anemometer-wind-crane |
