aligned with Explanation: The idea is this distinction should not be reduced to/merged with the other division, but I like "aligned with" because there is a sort of visual imagery with "rabbatue sur" that I think this retains a trace of. "Folded into" the distinction isn't impossible, but a bit contrived I think. |

made to fall back on -> rest upon, rely on Explanation: I think the connection is closer to the meaning of "rabattre sur, se rabattre sur;" you might pursue that line of reasoning. HTH |

understood as a variant of Explanation: An equivalent of the French "assimilable à", to be reduced to / or tantamount to / but in this particular context it really means "A-A' relation should not be understood as a variant of the B-B' relation" or "A-A' should not be regarded as B-B' under another guise" etc. Not sure what the best E phrase would be here but the meaning is this. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day21 hrs (2015-07-02 04:37:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Actually, "subsume" could be a better term in a text on Plotin : [Mais rien n’indique que cette distinction interne à la catégorie du mouvement, entre l’intelligible et le sensible] ***should be subsumed to ***[le partage entre le mouvement-energeia intemporel et le mouvement étendu et temporel du chapitre 16] |
