French term or phrase: manière de tenir dans le monde and Tenir au monde
This is expressed in a philosophical essay published in a philosophical journal. I have some alternative translations but not 100 percent happy with any of them. I wonder how would a native French translator familiar with philosophical texts translate these expressions.

Thanks

how we grasp things in the world vs Holding fast to the world

Explanation:
Having found Karsenti's essay, I think that the above might be a suitable translation. My interpretation (based, it is true, on a cursory reading) is that we grasp (apprehend, understand) things in the world and we hold fast to an understanding of the world.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I find your suggestion intriguing but it seems to me the expression "holding on the world" is appropriate in some respect, while in some other places it makes more sense to say "acting in the world" Vaik

How to hold oneself in the word and (how to) hold onto the world

Explanation:
Not a native but this is how I read it.

Or 'the way to' instead of how to, depending on what precedes the sentence

with hold onto the world it probably means our way of relating to the world in order to grasp its meaning and I too like my colleague B D Finch says read hold in the sense of grasp-make meaningful to us

tenir=hold=grasp=understand

I have not read Karsenti but much philosophical discussion has been produced on how one may do this through language by naming things and thus claiming them, grasping them

Explanation:
a translation based on my interpretation of the concept: you have to fight the world to keep your stand while simultaneously caring for the world and standing up for it
