how we grasp things in the world vs Holding fast to the world Explanation: Having found Karsenti's essay, I think that the above might be a suitable translation. My interpretation (based, it is true, on a cursory reading) is that we grasp (apprehend, understand) things in the world and we hold fast to an understanding of the world.

How to hold oneself in the word and (how to) hold onto the world Explanation: Not a native but this is how I read it. Or 'the way to' instead of how to, depending on what precedes the sentence -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 7 hrs (2016-02-01 16:46:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- with hold onto the world it probably means our way of relating to the world in order to grasp its meaning and I too like my colleague B D Finch says read hold in the sense of grasp-make meaningful to us tenir=hold=grasp=understand I have not read Karsenti but much philosophical discussion has been produced on how one may do this through language by naming things and thus claiming them, grasping them |

the manner of standing up to the world while standing up for the world Explanation: a translation based on my interpretation of the concept: you have to fight the world to keep your stand while simultaneously caring for the world and standing up for it |
