French term or phrase: Lancier
I would appreciate your help with the word "lancier." It appears in a text about disinfection of pavements etc. by the fire brigade, in the following sentence:

Désinfection des trottoirs: un lancier accompagne la grosse arroseuse d’une capacité de 8000 litres et trois lanciers circulent sur des petits engins équipés de cuve et d’une lance.

I cannot find any satisfactory definition of the word. I'm not sure if it refers to the person (hose operator?) or a vehicle equipped with a hose.

agree  philgoddard: It says "circulent sur des petits engins", so they can't be vehicles.

Lancer

Explanation:
Hi, regarding your uncertainty whether "lancier" in this context should refer to the hose operator or the vehicle, I would like to clarify by saying that "l'arroseuse," known in English as a flusher truck, is the vehicle. That said, the professional should be the lancer.

Hope this helps!

water cannon operator

Explanation:
Hello

I'm offering this alternative is because I don't think there is a hose as such at all. More a big in-your-face nozzle like the ones police use to disperse demonstrators
