Il termine viene spesso accompagnato dall'aggettivo "généralisé" e collegato all'esistenza di armi nucleari, ad esempio i missili intercontinentali sovietici che fanno temere il rischio di un "embrasement généralisé". Mi veniva da pensare a "deflagrazione", ma non sono sicura.
