La côte Vermeille est fortement découpée et présente une succession de caps limitant de petites anses entre des falaises pouvant atteindre 30 à 100 mètres de hauteur. La topographie sous-marine reflète cette morphologie aérienne. Les falaises se prolongent dans l’eau par des fonds rocheux constitués de blocs plus ou moins importants issus de l’érosion des parois rocheuses. Ainsi, les blocs composés de schistes sont souvent en association avec d’autres faciès, formant des paysages et habitats variés tels que le coralligène, les failles, les herbiers de posidonies et les bancs de sable.
