agree  Carmen Lawrence: I agree, or sludge extraction valve is another option

agree  Derek Gill Franßen: ...was going to suggest "sludge extraction valve"; either way, "-abzug-" should somehow be included in the translation.

sludge wasting valve

Explanation:
According to my husband, an environmental engineer who designs water and wastewater treatment systems.

Sludge wasting regularly moves the sludge from the clarifier to a sludge-specific treatment, usually a digester, aerobic or anaerobic.

Sludge wasting is a more routine activity than sludge blowdown, which is also a possibility he suggested.

-> Thank you, Peter, :). We do end up with "interesting" dinner time conversations. Sludge isn't the worst by far...

sludge discharge valve

Explanation:
This term gets a larger share of relevant web hits than the previous combinations with drawoff/draw-off, extraction or wasting. "Abzug" can also be translated as "discharge" in an engineering/industrial/plant design context.

Some examples:

http://www.idswater.com/Common/exhib_278/6_61_US_01.pdf
"During this process one filter chamber is held in reserve
with cleaned filter candles, separate from the filtration
process, the ***sludge discharge valve*** 6 is closed and compressed
air is stored in the air reservoir. ... Now the ***sludge discharge valve*** 6 opens and the blocked chamber is depressurised. At the same time the filter-stored compressed air is explosively released from the upper hollow space of the selector mechanism 10 and discharges the liquid from the selector mechanism 4 and the closed-off filter chamber. In parallel with the pressure release the flushing valve 9 opens. The compressed air from the air reservoir 7 accelerates the clean liquid in the filter chamber and pushes it in the reversed flow through the filter candles.
Due to the pressure burst, the dirt particles are flushed off the filter mesh and out of the filter housing through the opened ***sludge discharge valve *** 6."

"After the clean water has emptied, the ***sludge discharge valve*** is opened. The sludge falls onto the filter media where it dewaters by gravity to approximately 25% solids."

"Sludge discharge valve: Mr. Hoyzack noted that this value is not heated and could freeze. This will be corrected."

"Vacuum Distiller – TS (former TRS No. 102945)
The vacuum distiller treats chemically polluted waters from metal plating, photographic, printing, ink and paint manufacturing, cosmetic, and other industries. The system contains a distillate tank, vacuum pump, condenser, scraper motor, expansion valve, heat exchanger and a ***sludge discharge valve***. Evaporation and heating of liquids are obtained by means of an electric pump. The vapours are recondensed within the vacuum system, producing a very pure liquid and the non-evaporating substances are reduced to a highly concentrated residue from which valuable raw materials can be reclaimed. The system is completely enclosed so no noxious vapours escape. The vacuum distiller is classified under tariff item No. 8419.40.90 as a distilling plant. Distilling plant is named at the subheading No. level and in the Explanatory Notes, Section (II), on pages 1273 and 1274. (8419.40.00)".
