Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Tuesday) Explanation: See my discussion entry. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 29 mins (2014-02-04 14:49:57 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrove_Tuesday -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2014-02-05 00:05:18 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I stand corrected, Shrovetide should be the answer. Thanks Thomas! You are right, Shrove Tuesday is the last day of Shrovetide - the period that comes before Lent. Shrovetide, Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day are more of a tradition than a "holiday/holy day" in the UK, ever since Henry VIII did away with all the catholic celebrations. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2014-02-05 00:07:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Here's an article about Shrovetide - it also mentions Fastnacht as the "eve of the fast" - which seems to indicate Shrove Tuesday, it being the day before Lent begins. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2014-02-05 00:08:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/13763a.htm |
