[Well actually, if you wanna make a buck: you'd better trade in cheese boards than in cheese; they're pretty hard to come by ;-) ]

neutral  Lis Liesicke: cheesewood comes from Asia - if you look at pictures of Käseholz it really does seem to be some kind of pine wood

The bits are from Amani in USA. A bit expensive but........ I liked them.
Cheesewood aka milky pine is not blonde like other pines, it looks a bit like the lighter coloured meranti, greyish. It is very soft and does not have much structural strength but I like it for boxes.

.......Cheesewood aka milky pine is not blonde like other pines,..........

That's because it isn't one.
It's actually a rainforest hardwood, although not very hard. It was often sold in mixed species lots up here sold as "mixed semi-hardwoods". I think it's called "pine" because of the way the tree often grows with a straight central trunk and radiating branches. It's one of the pioneer species that grows in areas where rainforest is allowed to regenerate.

Milky Pine Alstonia scholaris
Milky Pine Cerbera floribunda
Milky Pine Cerbera inflata
Milkwood Alstonia actinophylla
Milkwood Alstonia scholaris
Milkwood Excoecaria dallachyana
Cheesewood Nauclea orientalis
Cheesewood Pittosporum bicolor
Cheesewood Sarcocephalus cordatus
Cheesewood Xanthophyllum octandrum

I bet it is actually Northern Milkwood, Alstonia actinophylla.
