German term or phrase: Fladerschnitt
From a text on using wood to make furniture and veneer targeted at specialists in woods and furniture. Here is the sentence in which it appears:

....This seems to indicate a cut made along the grain, so this is how I've translated the term in the context of the sentence:

In cuts made tangentially or along the grain and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tree, the annual rings are cut at a very flat angle, thereby producing wide and sometimes mottled markings of pyramid-shaped grains from the earlywood and latewood.

flat (plain) sawing (cutting)
Explanation:

In tangential or flat sawing/cutting, which is carried out parallel to the trunk axis, the annual rings are sawn/cut flat.
... are sawn / cut so that the rings form an angle of less than 45° in relation to the board surface.

I wouldn't necessarily use "at a very flat angle;" if at all, 'cut flat" (see above sentence and the acute angle)

Unlike quarter cutting, the quarter or third of a log is cut from the outside to the log's center so that the annual rings are cut flat. The veneers produced in this way have a flat cut, flower "cathedral" structure.

crown cut and others

Explanation:
Flachmessern:

"Plain-Sliced Veneer.

(also Known as Flat Cut or Crown Cut)

Is the most widely used. It is manufactured by advancing a half log against a stationary knife in an up-and-down movement. The resulting cut is characterized by straight grain intermixed with cathedrals. This method is moderately priced and is available for most wood species. "

PLAIN SAWN / FLAT SAWN
Most common, least expensive
Plain sawn, also commonly called flat sawn, is the most common lumber you will find. This is the most inexpensive way to manufacture logs into lumber. Plain sawn lumber is the most common type of cut. The annular rings are generally 30 degrees or less to the face of the board; this is often referred to as tangential grain. The resulting wood displays a cathedral pattern on the face of the board.

Plain sawing or flat sawing (also called tangential cut) is the most common sawing method. This method is the simplest way to cut rectangular-profiled boards out of a round log. In plain sawing, the wood is sawn tangentially to the annual growth rings so that the rings form an angle of less than 45° in relation to the board surface. On a wood floor, this cut is easily recognizable by its cathedral arches.
