This distinction ("...um etwas zu erledigen") is not upheld by posting "trips to government offices." She agreed with something that's not even saying the same thing!

3) To be sure, I didn't really like the old suggestions either, visits and whatnot. As I said before, I think your own idea (accompany) was better than the one you chose. Plus, the proposed solution is hardly shorter than what you came up with yourself!

This is a good use of "trips":

That you can't "...separate the trip itself from its purpose in this context..." is a very German idea because it's a compound noun in German, but it isn't in English. Of course, I can help an old lady get to the building. Doesn't mean I am going to help her once she's inside, which I don't think is the case here. One German example:
"Zusätzlich zur Einbindung der Betroffenen bei Beratungsstellen begleiten ehrenamtlich engagierte Paten/innen Menschen mit Wohnungsproblemen. Sie leisten lebenspraktische Hilfestellungen, indem sie zusammen mit den Betroffenen nach Wohnungen suchen, [...], beim Ausfüllen von Anträgen helfen oder bei Behördengängen mit dabei sind."

You don't go there to get there but because you filled out the form and you need someone else around because there might be some issues you are not aware of. Had to do the same thing when my significant other was still learning basic German. So, this too is demonstrably false.

Johanna's example is unfortunate because it reads "Making additional trips to government agencies to resolve discrepancies..." It states a purpose, exactly as the Duden does.

Sorry for coming back to this so late and thank you for your answer. It was a bit stressful the past few days.

Despite this, I will have to downvote for several reasons.

1) "As I said it's about help with going to the 'Behörden' not just help on the computer."

This idea originated with Michael ("...while sitting at home in front of your laptop.").

I said "call" at first and only provided "Online-Behördengänge," since it was still not clear apparently that Germans will use Behördengänge regardless of whether they need to be physically present or not. Aside from your specific context(!), the idea that a Behördengang must involve some kind of walk is demonstrably false.

2) Even in your very specific context, they aren't trying to carry a drunk to the office. One comment (UK) was "...is the journey there, not the visit itself"; another (UK) was "pushing a wheelchair" and another (including my other half, US): "sounds like you're carrying a disabled vet on your shoulders."

My husband who's English and I decided that this is the best option here. Navigate the system is great but too far from the original and not clear enough. As I said it's about help with going to the "Behörden" not just help on the computer. So, help with government offices and trips to government offices fits well here. There are also examples of filling in forms and going to doctor's appointments and writing letters, but this is about accompanying homeless people to the actual offices.

How did you incoirporate "trips to offices" in your sentence?

It's not just Mair; both I and my (American) half agree that this sounds like you're carrying a disabled vet on your shoulders because he can't "make the trip" to the building.

Even in the Duden, it says:
"Gang zu einer Behörde, um dort etwas zu erledigen"

That's why they used it in the link I posted for "Online-..." because the key part is the second half of the sentence, not the first. "Gang," whether or not you actually walk there represents the broader picture of "making claims/filling out applications"; or it's "appointments," as pointed to below.

Don't have much time, but if that is so, then why don't you take the literal approach ("mit zu den Behörden gehen") and use your own words:
"We accompany people who are homeless to their health appointments and advocate on their behalf to ensure they understand the information that is being given to them..."
