sunshine fund

What is a Sunshine Fund?
The purpose of the Sunshine Fund is to bring a ray of sunshine into the lives of our co-workers. For those special occasions such as retirement, birth of a baby, or when things aren't going well for us either through an illness or death of a loved one it is comforting to know that our Molloy family cares about them.

piggy bank/sock fund/rainy day pool

Explanation:
the German Freud-und Leidkasse stems from having to pay when you're late for class = Leid (teachers and older students) and from the cause the funds go to 0 Freud

staff benevolent fund

Explanation:
For a one-off occasion, we (i.e. UK usage) have a staff 'whip-round'. Your Freud- und Leidkasse seems to have a permanent status.
I have googled 'Sunshine fund' and found some hits, but they all refer to donations for worthy causes outside the firm, e.g. children in need, local hospices.
My main reservation about 'staff benevolent fund' is that it's more about Leid than Freude. However, the converse could be said of 'Sunshine fund'.

Alternately, you are welcome to give a staff donation to a member of the management team who will put it in the staff kitty

I can't think of a translation right now, but this is what it means:

I think you might have to spell it out in full: "A fund to which employees contribute, used to buy such items as birthday cards and leaving gifts."
