Is this just ****"jointly with the business"*** (or perhaps analogously****"together with the business"****) or is it
rather the case that the text talks about defining the hardware's life cycle (or perhaps useful life) ***as operation of the system proceeds*** or something?

My problem is that I do not know exactly know which of the companies involved in the prototype's development, operation and support the term "the business" could refer to.

The topic is digital rail pass software documentation. The overarching context is the DACH area tender for the IT work contemplated in order to move on towards commercial live operation of card reader, digital rail pass, software and possibly any data transfer or topping-up device (for topping up your credit on the rail pass), just in case the reader cannot do that (the job is 13,500 words and we have not reached the end of it so ... sorry about that).

Damit kommen nur unabhängige, self-signed (= Root) CAs zum Einsatz, deren Anzahl sich im Laufe der Zeit erhöht:
