I need to read the whole paragraph to be 100% sure, but I think it's saying that the artery AFS was blocked seamlessly (without much effort).

as in effortless occlusion - it also can mean smooth, as in there are no marks after the occlusion or that it was a seamless process but in this context I think effortless encompasses those synonyms.
