detoxification (RODA procedure)

Explanation:
RODA (rapid opioid detoxification under anaesthesia) was pioneered in Austria. The original name (rapid opiate detoxification under anaesthesia) is often avoided as there is a difference between opiates (natural) and opoids (natural, semi-synthetic and synthetic) and the latter should be used. It is also sometimes referred to as ROD or UROD (ultra-rapid opioid detoxification).
If RODA is used simply as an abbreviation, it may well be for the above-named reason. It therefore makes sense to do the same in the EN version, i.e. "detoxification using the RODA" procedure" or "detoxification (RODA procedure)"

Example sentence(s):
  • Support for rapid opioid detoxification with anaesthesia/sedation (RODA) as an approach to the treatment of opioid dependence comes from arguments: that it is an intervention which can "cure" heroin dependent individuals;
  • ROD under general anaesthesia is generally not undertaken in Australia now as only those procedures involving minimal sedation can be carried out in low-level medical settings.
