German term or phrase: Feuerwehr-Tages-Offizier
In a text about various inspections to be carried out at a power plant:

Feuerwehr is obviously "fire service or brigade" but I can only guess that the Tages-Offizier is deputising for the Commander, a temporary standin, but I can't find any useful links in German let alone English translations.

agree  philgoddard: Though in your reference, I think "of the day" means "at the time". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Officer_of_the_day

commanding officer

Explanation:
I think in US English you would just say 'fire chief or commanding officer'

Oops, I didn't make myself clear. Meant to say: The fire chief, or in his absence, the commanding officer/officer in charge/senior ranking officer etc...

Asker: Hmm, but then how would I translate the preceding "Feuerwehrkommandant"?
