Hi everyone,

This is from a film made in the late 1960s. The character who is talking is a sort of Beat Generation, would-be poet. He starts to read an excerpt from a book:

"Ein Vertreter, zum Beispiel, der einem Kunden zum ersten Mal begegnet, soll sich mir der Ära des aussergewöhnlichen umgeben..."

Should surround himself with the...? Sublime mystery?

Does anyone know how I could render this in keeping with the rather flowery, hippy language the guy uses?

Explanation:
...should attire himself in/should don an air/aura of mystique. It depends a lot on the level of trippy-hippiness you're after. Perhaps Ramey's is closer to the mark. "Der sanfte Lauf"? I haven't seen it, but I'd watch anything with Bruno Ganz!

While all the suggestions were excellent, I eventually went for this one. An "aura of mystique" really hits the mark in the context of the film. BTW, it did actually say "Ära" in the script, but thanks for the heads up, Ramey.
