German term or phrase: einklauen
apparently a merge between "einkaufen" and "klauen", used as another, humorous, word for shoplifting.
Could you somehow keep the wordplay in English?

English translation:shop(lift)ing?
Explanation:
Would this work? As in "my friends came back from shop(lift)ing. " Depends on the style of the original though. It's tricky to keep the German play on words in the English translation, and I can't think of a solution, other that to paraphrase it a bit, perhaps. Could you give us an idea of the rest of the sentence it comes from?

Notes to answerer
Asker: thank you, BentleyG. The rest of the sentence isn't that spectacular, it just goes "in the olden days, when we were young and poor, we used to shoplift in the local ALDI"

disagree  Cilian O'Tuama: non pro// Please let me rephrase that, for it might appear rude. We're looking for a term also understood by monolingual Eng. speakers. Oder?

get a five-finger discount

Explanation:
I don't think you should try to coin a word - just find a colorful slang phrase. You haven't given the context, but here's one suggestion.

Five finger discount.
Stealing.
How much was that?
I got it for a five finger discount."
