German term or phrase: Schriftmaler
This term refers to a trade or craft. The person to whom it refers worked in the mid 1800s, circa 1860. Is this a sign painter, or merely a letter painter, as in someone who paints prices or sales notices on shop windows, etc.?

The German Schriftmaler is also a calligraphist. The time you've mentioned was a time when it was still very expensive to buy printed books and because of that there were still calligraphists working. On books and on signs. Good luck. Machiel.
