Danke für die Hilfe. Habe mich für "plumb hole" entschieden, weil es genau das ausdrückt, was gemeint ist. Einfach, aber effektiv.
Nochmals danke, Katrin Harlaß

Explanation:
Based on google hits for Lotloch (aside from your question), it is trade jargon and/or invented for the sake of your document.

You could use 'plumb hole' if the term is effectively defined in your text (as appears to be the case from the provided context if it is quote from the document), although in general usage it means a hole drilled or bored perpendicular to a surface or aligned vertically.

A small hole in a panel to allow something to pass is often called a 'keyhole' in English, sou you could also call it a 'plumb-bob keyhole'.

That should read 'in this context it is trade jargon or...'

Most hits for Lotloch refer to a feature of a printed circuit board (a hole that receives a component lead for soldering).

agree  Gillian Scheibelein: Maybe even "plumb-line keyhole" as it accommodates the line rather than the bob itself?

-> well, the bob has to pass through first... and the hole must be large enough to ensure that the line remains free.

Kuceras "sounding line" changed into "sounding hole" does not hit well; is is used for musical elements.

@Cox: die getroffene Auswahl ist wahrscheinlich besser; habe jedenfalls nichts passenderes gefunden. Danke nochmal für Ihren Hinweis und Grüße.

neutral  Ken Cox: as the cited definition says, a pilot hole is an initial hole used to guide a subsequent larger hole
