Eine intensive Kundenbindung hat einen positiven Einfluss auf den gesamten wirtschaftlichen Erfolg eines Unternehmens, wobei sie als vorökonomische Größe zur Erreichung ökonomischer Ziele führen kann. Da die Märkte weitgehend gesättigt sind und der Markt damit zu einem Käufermarkt geworden ist, auf dem der Kunde bestimmt, was abgesetzt werden kann, erscheint die Entstehung langfristiger Kundenbindung als eine herausfordernde Aufgabe für das Unternehmen, wenn nicht die zentrale Zielsetzung. Weiterhin werden die physikalisch technischen Komponenten des Produktes immer weiter austauschbar, was dazu führt, dass der Kunde grundsätzlich den Preis der Hauptleistung frequentiert.
