German term or phrase: cat's colour
Dear ProZians,
I'm sorry that I use KudoZ for entirely personal thing. I am in a very uncomfortobale situation. My neighbour went for two months to Thailand and left her cat to our other neighbour. This neighbour then went for this weekend to Rome and left the cat last Tuesday to us.

The cat is still very young, maybe 6 months or so, but it knows his home and his name. He knows us, my kids are playing with him. Now on the third day him being in our place he got lost.

Usually he is going out for a few times a day to inner yard but coming back in 15-20 minutes. Last night he didn't come home. Till late night I was calling him and then decided that some neighbour took it in for night, it had happened before, but he didn't home today either.

So now I'm trying to give in the local Tierheim and ad over Internet. The problem is that my German is still rather limited and I have no idea about such a complicated topic as cat's colour.

Our hero is looking like this one http://www.ueliraz.ch/2003/2002/katze.jpg
but it is smaller and has longer hair.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

agree  Stephanie Wloch: schon richtig, obwohl ich dieses schwarz immer verwirrend finde, weil alle Tiger ja schwarze Streifen haben

Zyper?

Explanation:
In Dutch we call a striped cat like that a Cypers (mine is one), maybe it's Zyper in German? Anyway, I wish you luck and don't give up hoping, he will come back! Go look in places in the neighbourhood where he could have gone in and can't get out, like a barn or trash containers. Also go from door to door, he might have found a new friendly family...Goodluck!!

Explanation:
grau-schwarz getigert like Crannmer wrote

often people say also:
grau getigert - grauer Tigerkater

officially (with pedigree cats)
the painting (die Zeichnung) is called tabby like in English
Mackerel tabby --> Getigert - gestreift (wie eine Makrele)
Classic/ blotched --> gestromt

You can see the difference here:
http://www.silvergiltcats.de/de/tabbymuster.html

About the hair:
Maine Coone norwegian forest cat etc. Halblanghaar
Persian Langhaar

I hope you can find him! Don't hesitate to speak in English
with people from the Tierschutz, normally they are
very helpful and this should be no problem.
Good luck!
