Explanation:
Back in the day, didn't this use to be the term for when the screen went black due to technical problems? (Can anyone verify this?) I suspect that it has fallen into disuse because it is so rare nowadays and blackout now has a different meaning. Nevertheless, it may still be the most appropriate term here.
