Βέβαια για να είμαστε περισσότερο σωστοί πρέπει να σημειώσουμε ότι όταν μιλάμε για hamstrings αναφερόμαστε σε τρεις μύες (semitendinosus, semimembranosus, biceps femoris). Όμως, στον αθλητικό χώρο τείνει να ταυτίζεται το hamstrings με το biceps femoris.
Για παράδειγμα, ένας από τους πιο διαδεδομένους τραυματισμούς του οπίσθιου μηριαίου είναι το λεγόμενο "τράβηγμα" το οποίο στα αγγλικά είναι hamstring strain:
