In response to Ellen Kraus, I agree that entry or even entrance would be good too. With "opening", one might think of the river opening into the Ionian Sea where the Ambracian Gulf disembogues. "Source" and "Headwaters" are the literal meaning of the word "είσοδος" when it refers to a river.
