English translation:broaden the canvas
Explanation:
Is one possibility I'd consider for this, it may be more literal, but it also works I think...

"her diligence and determination enabled her to broaden the canvas in the field of..."

However, there are quite a few other possibilities, I'd also consider:
a) expand the boundaries
b) expand the scope
c) expand [on] (on its own - with wording to be tweaked according to exact context).
...and the suggestions already given are also good.

Rosenthal doesn't help much here in my opinion, he includes the phrase in two variations:
a) להרחיב את היריעה
b) לפרוש יריעה רחבה

...and he only describes it as "הציג נושא בהקשרים מגוונים".

broaden the spectrum

Explanation:
I think this is the most idiomatic way to translate this, although broaden the scope is also correct.

Example sentence(s):
  • Qimmah Saafir and Popephoenix Broaden The Spectrum Of Diversity In Children's Stories
  • Dow AgroSciences has broadened the spectrum on pasture and range weed control with a new product combining traditional 2,4-D and a new molecule - aminopyralid.
