Hindi term or phrase: tilo
Dear coleagues,

Please, I need to make sure if the name of the first character in the film "The Mistress of Spices", Tilo, means "linden" in English and therefore, it belongs to the family of the Tiliaceae or if, otherwise, it is the name for another spice or plant.

At the end of the movie, the male character tells her:
- You never told me what my spice is.
And Tilo answers:
- Sesame... Tilo...

Thank you very much in advance!

If you mean Til i.e. तिल, it means 1.the sesame plant 2. sesame seed
Explanation:
There appears to be no word as Tilo in Hindi. It is very close to Til. Your question also contains reference to certain plants. So. I guess you perhaps mean Til instead which means the sesame plant or sesame seed.

Sesame is a plant grown primarily for its oil-rich seeds. The small, cream-white sesame seed is used whole in cooking for its rich nutty flavour, and also yields a cooking oil. Sesame seeds are sometimes added to bagels and the top of hamburger buns. Sesame seeds are baked into crackers, often in the form of sticks. Sesame plants are also known as til in Hindi and benne in some languages of Africa

Hope it helps.

Dear langclinic, this is very helpful. It has also helped me to understand many ideas of this precious film, which I'm translating from English into Catalan. Keshab's note is also helpful. Thank you very much.
