you are the first to receive the prize Explanation: I've read the French in which I am a mere amateur. Here "garantita" means you get the prize full stop. Your "among others" may exist in the reality , but not in the Italian and French text presented. "Garantire" is so ubiquitous in Italian it is rarely to be translated with "guarantee". Very often I tranlsate with "provide". "E' a lei" would seem, if anything, to exclude anybody else receiving the prize. BTW more (10 lines) of the original Italian text would help a lot. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 21 hrs (2016-05-09 13:08:54 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The literal meaning is "to you has been guaranteed the first grant (attribuire is to give here) of the prize". It does not say anything about other people, it clearly says "to you" and translated into plain natural English, that must mean you are the first to receive the prize and I think a judge would have to uphold that interpretation, even if it is not true. It is unclear to me the relationship between the French and the Italian. I think you really need to contact the authors and find out what is happening and what they want, or just put the usual notes to cover your BS if it is an agency. |

guaranteed the first prize allocation Explanation: The rules in this context are unclear in the Italian, as noted in the discussion of the term. I think 'to allocate' is the right verb match to prize. Probably the prizes in this case are different and the first prize allocation is superior to the others ?
