(pictorial) dots Explanation: He was an expert in silkscreen printing (SERIGRAFIA) "A halftone pattern is a series of dots that vary in size and shape and spacing to create an optical illusion of varying tones and gradients. The dots are so small that the human eye blends them together so they appear as smooth tones." A measure of printing resolution indicating the number of individual dots a printer can produce in a linear one inch space. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day55 mins (2016-03-16 12:05:39 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- in your case in singular Reference: http://www.printcutsew.com/274/a-full-size-guide-to-printing... pictorial point Explanation: From what I can see from Chiara's link, some of these are teeny-weeny abstract compositions that are sometimes compiled into grid patterns or checkerboards. It is possible this relates to Kandinsky's concept of "point" that appears in artsy discussions and in his influential book Point and Line to Plane (see the Wikipedia article on Kandinsky). I think the safest bet is just to translate punto as point. It relates to a geometric or mathematical point, but it is the smallest discrete unit of an artist's stroke, marker, or mark. I think the idea is that these tiny images barely contain a single pictorial form, thus they are even less than a single unit (Sottopunti). https://books.google.it/books?id=RSymBQAAQBAJ&pg=PA3&lpg=PA3&dq=%22punto+pittorico%22&source=bl&ots=33Fb7gEIyW&sig=jYBKg9gU580mdQAAjQxNcwhHs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wassily_Kandinsky#Point_and_line_to_plane |

Reference Reference information: They are speaking about the work of a painter, maybe they are using the term "punto pittorico" as a synonym for "tratto pittorico" Reference: http://www.archivionuvolo.it/cicli-pittorici/serotipie.html |
