Italian term or phrase: nodi scuri cadenti
this is the third term of several from a table which is part of a commercial agreement, and defines the price structure.

One alternative I have looked at would be "dark loose knots" but it does not get much in the way of Google hits, so I would not be surprised if there is a better term.

Explanation:
Apparentemente non esiste una nomenclatura univoca, ma lo stesso difetto viene indicato da vari sinonimi. Talvolta "loose" non è necessario perché incluso nella definizione

Why do resin galls and loose dead knots need to be fixed? What are the effects if they are left?

1. Knots
Dead knots (loose knot) caused by inclusion of dead branches, weaken timber and lower the value of timber. Usually, sound knots(tight knot) are permitted, but they affect the stiffness and strength of lumber, too.

Loose Knots

A loose knot, also known as a black knot, occurs when a dead branch becomes embedded in the growing tree trunk. Loose knots are not physically attached to the rest of the tree. They easily fall out, leaving a hole when the tree is cut into lumber. Loose knots reduce wood quality and strength much more than tight knots.

Me li sono persa per strada e sto uscendo di corsa per ricercarli, ma guarda che si trovano in rete dei glossari specifici che magari ti aiutano con gli altri termini.
